What is Spiritual Formation?
Spiritual Formation is understood as a process, an unfolding of one's life in the Holy Spirit over one's lifetime. The process of spiritual formation is the respectful engagement of the experience and wisdom already within the person, not an attempt to "add" something but rather, to discover the fullness of the inner life that is already present deep within and it’s integration with the outer self. Spiritual formation engages the whole person in response to the life of the Indwelling Trinity acting through and within the community of disciples. This formation in Christian life is going on all the time through family life, worship, scripture, prayer and meditation, simplicity and solitude, earthkeeping and justice making, etc. The Center for Mission & Ministry offers ecumenical programs, workshops & seminars designed to immerse participants in the deepening of the spiritual life, on- going formation & spiritual direction, skill-training for servant ministry, and the richness of ecumenical and interfaith connections, all of which is understood as a way to deepen and enrich one’s life in Christ. Hope to see you at a program soon. Also, remember that many of these events are ecumenical so please pass the word on to friends from other denominations or bring them along when you register for a program. Making Us One is a unique ministry of this Synod and spiritual formation is a way to deepen and strengthen the spiritual life of the Synod Faith Community in North/West Lower Michigan.
