Making Us One

God of all living, God of all loving, God of the seedling, the snow, and the sun,
Teach us, deflect us, Christ reconnect us, using us gently, and making us one.
“Touch the Earth Lightly,” vs. 4, ELW 739

From Bishop Schleicher
Synod Council members, committee members, Lay Ministry Training Program participants, 235 rostered leaders, 129 congregations, ecumenical partners and interfaith partners--these are the leaders who will know this "campus" as a welcoming place, a place for the kindling of hope, where new configurations are created, everyone discerning in prayerful conversation with one another the emerging shapes of their callings. We have this dream of God in Christ "making us one," God using this gracious and green campus as a catalyst for bold and enduring hope.

I am praying every day that 100% of the members of this synod will support this deepened way for us to be together and to do together. I believe there are 1111 of us who can pledge $1,800 or more (payable over a five-year period) between now and November 1. Just as importantly, I hope that every contributing member of our congregations will see the vision of "Making Us One" and give, regardless of the amount. "Making Us One" is about Jesus' prayer for us. It is about hope for our congregations, our communities, and for the Earth. It is about us, so deeply loved and forever marked with the cross of Christ.

From Your Center for Mission & Ministry Facilitator
Nancy Brousseau, OP

A question I have received since beginning work as Center Facilitator is about the OP after my name – so, here is a bit of history about Dominicans.

The Order of Preachers (Latin: Ordo Praedicatorum), after the 15th century more commonly known as the Dominican Order or Dominicans, is a Catholic religious order founded by Saint Dominic de Gusman (born in Spain – Old Castile) in the early 13th century . Membership in the Order includes the friars, the nuns (cloistered), the sisters (active), and lay persons affiliated with the order (formerly known as tertiaries or third order and also Associates – about 33,000 Dominican men & women world-wide and 100,000 lay Associates) So, technically, I am a sister, not a cloistered nun. The Order is guided by the Rule of St. Augustine. Read more

Institute of Spiritual Formation
Nancy Brousseau, OP

This month I’d like to focus on one aspect of the programming for the Center for anyone who might be interested in traveling to DeWitt one Saturday a month between October and early June. This new program idea is called The Institute of Spiritual Formation. As an Institute it is a way of organizing some of the programs and opportunities that will be offered, a "container" of sorts. Spiritual Formation is understood as a process, an unfolding of one’s life in the Holy Spirit over one's lifetime. The process of spiritual formation is the respectful engagement of the experience and wisdom already within the person, not an attempt to "add" something but rather, to discover the fullness of the inner life that is already present deep within. Spiritual formation engages the whole person in response to the life of the Indwelling Trinity acting through the community of disciples. This formation in Christian life is going on all the time through family life, worship, scripture, prayer and meditation, simplicity and solitude, earthkeeping and justice making, etc. Read more
