SUMMARY:Preaching Jesus as Savior Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Robert Krieg and Bishop Craig Alan Satterlee for Preaching Jesus as Savior! At this retreat\, we will explore and reflect upon preaching God’s once and for all saving mystery in Jesus Christ using the church’s understandings of God’s self-disclosure in Christ\, which unfolded over the centuries. Our goal is to move from the theological to the practical and relevant\, including identifying strategies for preaching\, so that participants go away with a set of “preaching tools” they can use to proclaim Jesus as Savior. In addition to presentation and conversation\, the retreat will include time for worship\, fellowship\, prayer\, and reflection. Bishop Katherine A. Finegan of the Northern Great Lakes Synod will serve as our chaplain. \nThis retreat will be held in-person on October 21-23 at the St. Francis Retreat Center in Dewitt\, MI. The event will be held on Saturday\, October 5th from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm at Peace Lutheran Church in Gaylord. \nThe Keynote Address will be given by Victoria White who serves as Program Director at With Ministries. Her experience and passion in education and ministry converge in her writing\, speaking\, consulting and training for congregations\, equipping them to build belonging with people of all abilities. The Keynote Address will share ways of including people with varying disabilities in worship\, and best practices for building belonging. \nParticipants may also choose two workshops from three offerings: \nBiblical Perspective on Disability led by Bishop Craig Satterlee \nMinistry with People with Dementia\, led by Pastor Clay Bates \nNormalizing Neurodiversity (autism\, etc.) in Your Context\, led by Victoria White \nThere will be group discussion time to share struggles and challenges; or\, ideas and strategies that have worked in your context. \nRegistration is $20 and includes lunch and a free book or fidget toy.  There will also be books and other resources for sale. \nRegistration closes Friday\, September 27th. DESCRIPTION:How do we\, as communities of faith\, change our thinking on stewardship and generosity to meet the challenges of the moment? In partnership with the Lake Institute on Faith & Giving\, the ELCA is offering congregations the opportunity to reexamine their stewardship thinking and imagine ways to act on their findings in their communities. The six-week webinar “Cultivating Generous Congregations” will offer virtual cohort sessions where congregational leaders can discuss\, dissect and collaborate on how generosity might work in their contexts.
