On the night of December 10 and early morning of December 11, an outbreak of at least 30 tornadoes swept through six states. So far, 94 people are reported dead across five states, more than 80 of those in Kentucky. For those unaccounted for, search-and-rescue operations are underway. Homes and businesses were destroyed, and over 300,000 people were without electricity.
The Indiana-Kentucky Synod has established a synod disaster fund to help those impacted by the tornadoes. Donations can be made online at www.iksynod.org. Click on the “Donate” button at the top of the home page, or follow this link, and then in the upper right you will see a drop-down menu with “Give to: Mission Support”. Click on the down arrow next to Mission Support and you should be able to select “I-K Disaster Fund” and then enter the amount and source. Check donations may be mailed to the Indiana-Kentucky Synod Office (911 E 86th Street, Suite 200 Indianapolis IN 46240), with the designation “I-K Synod Disaster Fund.”
The North/West Lower Michigan Synod will be donating $5,000 to the Indiana-Kentucky Synod’s disaster fund to assist those impacted by the tornadoes. We are grateful for the generous giving by those in our synod, which allowed us to quickly send help to those in need.
Additionally, Lutheran Disaster Response is collaborating with the Indiana-Kentucky Synod and other partners in the area to assess the damage and develop an immediate and a long-term response plan. Your gifts to support these response efforts will empower our partners to meet survivors’ immediate and long-term needs. Given the extent of the damage, recovery will take years as thousands of homes will need to be rebuilt or repaired. With your support, Lutheran Disaster Response can accompany survivors on the long road to recovery.
Gifts to “U.S. Tornadoes” will be used in full (100%) to help people impacted by the tornadoes until the response is complete. Donate Now
