Small Talk: Summer Safety Prevention Training

Posted: June 9, 2026 image

As we slip and slide into summertime, our children will be diving into new adventures. Leaving behind the routine of the school year, kids will be traveling, attending camps, visiting relatives and parents will be frantically figuring out how to make sure their children are cared for during the busy work week.

Think for a second about the children in your life – and in your congregation’s life. What do they have to look forward to this summer? Where might they go and what might they do? And what risks might they encounter along the way?

At Small Talk, we’ve compiled some tips on how to keep kids safe physically, psychologically and emotionally during these summer months. Just as we remind our kids to put on sunscreen or bug spray, there are plenty of little things we can do to help make sure our kids are safe from adults and peers who might wish to harm them.

The following slides, click the button, touch on some common summer activities and give practical tips and advice on how to make those experiences a little safer. Topics include choosing childcare, visiting relatives, vacation tips, camping safely, sleepovers, and internet safety.  While these topics may be of primary interest to caregivers, it isn’t a stretch to expand them into thinking about things that happen specifically in your church: how the “church family” interacts with kids, mission trips, lock-ins, choosing the right camp, training volunteers for VBS, and so much more!

I hope you can use these slides as a springboard to launch into meaningful conversations about what keeping kids safe looks like at your church!  Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I’m always happy to chat about the ways we can make our kids safer!

Together,

Pastor Christin Fawcett
