Mitten Talks

Mitten Talks is a new offering by the North/West Lower Michigan Synod (i.e. “The Mitten Synod”) to introduce congregational leaders to resources for ministry. Mitten Talks will take place on a live Zoom meeting and then be uploaded here so congregations and leaders may view it whenever there is interest in a new, stimulating idea for ministry.

Each episode will feature a ministry leader (or several leaders) from our synod or beyond, sharing about their area of expertise. There will be time for questions and answers at the end as we wonder together, “what might this mean” for our ministry contexts. We hope you’ll join us for the upcoming offerings. We also hope you’ll give input on what the Mitten should talk about next because God’s voice has a way of coming forth when the Mitten Talks.

The ELCA Property Resource Hub

Our buildings are more than bricks, walls, and maintenance costs. They are spaces where ministry happens, relationships are built, and communities are welcomed. In this session, we explore the stewardship of our buildings and the creativity that comes from viewing these spaces through a ministry lens. Join us with guest speaker Pastor Sarah Jones of the Church Property Resource Hub!

The Endless Possibilities of Congregational Endowments

Learn from those who have established endowments for their property and ministry on the powerful impact a well-defined endowment might have on your ministry. Topics covered include what is an endowment? How does our congregation begin an endowment? Where do endowment funds come from? What impact has an endowment made on congregations who have one?

This Mitten Talk will be especially beneficial for: Those thinking about sustainability in ministry.  Those who are looking for ways to fund creative ministry. Those concerned about funding upkeep of their church property. Those hoping to expand the congregation’s ministry beyond the church walls. Those who would like to continue participating in a congregation’s ministry even after death.

Featuring Allan Dunlap from the ELCA Foundation and leaders form the NWLMS congregations.
