The ELCA task force reconsidering a section of the social statement Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust has released new resources to help congregations learn, reflect, and provide feedback. A five-episode podcast, Learn and Discern, explores topics including the history of the ELCA’s teachings on human sexuality, Lutheran theological ethics, bound conscience, and faithful conversation. A companion study, Conscience and Conversation, is designed for congregations and small groups to engage in thoughtful discussion and reflection.
Congregations are encouraged to use these resources and share feedback through the accompanying survey by September 30. Responses will help inform the task force as it prepares a draft of the reconsidered section of the social statement for churchwide review next year. Additional feedback may be submitted at any time throughout the process.
