ELMM Retreat: Assisting Minister Training II & Old Testament
March 13, 2020 - March 14, 2020
Assisting Minister Training II & The Writings
March 13-14, 2020
Location TBA
Assisting Minister Training II with Bishop Satterlee: Luther believed and Lutherans confess that all the baptized exercise an active, even “priestly” role in worship. So recent Lutheran worship books provide an assisting minister role with responsibilities assigned to a member of the congregation on behalf of the entire assembly. This course provides the theology behind this role and gives participants an opportunity to learn the appropriate skills, including setting and clearing the table, writing the intercessory prayers, and other responsibilities of the assisting minister in worship.
Prophets Before the Exile with Barbara Kaiser: Barbara Kaiser, Professor Emerita of Religion, recently retired after thirty-nine years of teaching at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio. She frequently leads adult education classes at Lutheran, Presbyterian, and Episcopal Churches in Southern Ohio and occasionally serves as an adjunct professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus. She received a BA in English and Religion from St. Olaf College and an MA and PhD in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible from The University of Chicago. Recently she published Reading Prophetic Poetry: Parallelism, Voice, and Design (Wipf and Stock, 2019).
Participants may attend either the Assisting Minister Training ($25 each session) or the Old Testament sessions ($50 each session) or both ($75 each retreat day plus Friday evening dinner and lodging)
