ELMM: The Gospels of Matthew and Mark
September 29, 2017 - September 30, 2017
The Gospels of Matthew and Mark
The Rev. Walter F. Taylor Jr., B.A., M.Div., Ph.D., Retired – Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus OH
The Gospel according to Matthew could very well be the most widely-read book in the New Testament. It has traditionally been the church’s favorite gospel, quoted more than any of the others in official documents and statements. Like the gospel of Mark, it offers us a testimony of faith in Jesus Christ. It is a witness book. The Gospel according to Mark is the shortest of our four Gospels. It was likely the first of the four to be written (probably around A.D. 64-70). Mark tells the story of Jesus and his disciples in a way that is simple and straightforward, while capturing the great drama of events that described Jesus’ life and ministry.
